About this blog

It was back in 1997 that I started this online journal - as they were known then - inspired by Gus Mueller, who was living in the same town as me, Charlottesville, Virginia. He’d been writing publicly about his daily life for a while - still does, in fact - and I was taken by the idea. My original thought was to type up my travel diaries of my first few trips across America, but it soon turned into something else when I hit a rather fertile period of depression. My online diary became my therapy, the place where I explored my thoughts and feelings and my desire for a better life. It helped a lot.

Later on, it did become a travel journal, detailing hitch-hiking trips across the States and Mexico, as well as my adventures in realms somewhat mystical. I wrote sporadically but consistently for about five years, by which time I had recorded about eight hundred thousands words in approximately five hundred and fifty entries, and then one day I decided to delete every little bit of it. That was in Dublin, in 2002. I didn’t do much for the four or five years after that - twenty-five entries in total - but then I started up again in 2007 on Myspace - which lasted until the beginning of 2009 - and after another break I began posting here. Everything I wrote after 2002 is now on this page, while what remains of pre-’02 is here.

It sure is a lot of words. Most of ‘em are probably pretty bonkers but people seem to have gotten something from them over the years.

Cheers!
